"Out of 460 personnel we checked, we found that the uniforms of 417 were not as per the rules. Therefore, they have been served notices," Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhruman H Nimbale said today.
"They were wearing low-waist pants, short sleeve shirts, skin-tight shirts and narrow bottom pants. In some cases, the sleeves were short by two inches and the bottom of the pants was even less than 15 inches as against 18 inches rule," he said.
Among the erring cops, six are Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and the rest constables and head constables, he said.
The DCP said the "show off" on part of the personnel would not be acceptable as far as the uniform is concerned.

"The major disadvantage of low-waist pants or a tight-fit dress is that cops would not be able to sit down whenever a situation warrants, he said.
Nimbale said they (cops) have been asked to get necessary alterations done as per the Punjab police uniform rules.
Most of personnel, who were served notices, have been in service since 2010, the DCP said.
While the 417 police personnel had to face the wrath of their seniors, 17 were handed over certificates of appreciation for donning the uniform conforming to rules.
