Most of the shops, petrol pumps and other business establishments kept their shutters down while traffic on the roads was thin across the city due to the bandh.
However, medicine shops remained open.
Schools and colleges in the city were also closed in view of the bandh.
A scuffle was reported from Indira market when bandh supporters allegedly tried to enforce closure of shops. However, there was no report as yet of anyone being injured in the incident.
The bandh call was given by the Bar Association of Uttarakhand after the state government failed to meet the 24-hour deadline set by the association for arresting the killers of senior lawyer O P Saklani's wife at her residence in a posh locality here on October 16.
The senior lawyer's wife was found lying in a pool of blood at home with her throat slit when Saklani was away.
