Doval arrived here this morning and called on Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at his residence, official sources said.
Security related issues were on the agenda of the meeting between the Chief Minister and the National Security Advisor, the sources said adding the exact details of what transpired between the two was not known.
They said hoisting of flags of outfits like Islamic State and Lashkar-e-Toiba and emergence of "home grown" militants, especially in south Kashmir region were likely issues to have come up during the discussions.
Top security and intelligence officials of the state are likely to brief the National Security Advisor on the ongoing operations against militants in the valley before the latter returns to Delhi tomorrow, the sources said.

Doval's schedule during his stay here has been listed as "open", a reference to the secretive nature of his engagements in the valley, the sources said.
The visit of Doval to Kashmir comes in the wake of a report which suggested that huge amount of funds were being pumped into valley from abroad for radicalization of youth.
There has been a spurt in attempts of infiltration from across the Line of Control since the last week of May this year while militants targetted many civilians, including owners of mobile telecommunication towers over the past two months.
