Larry, the Number 10 Downing Street cat, and Palmerston, the UK Foreign Office cat from the parallel street, have had to be separated after they went at each other again in front of the Foreign Office today.
Political photographer Steve Back captured the aftermath of the territorial war, which occurred as their masters Prime Minister Theresa May and UK foreign secretary Boris Johnson were a few feet away at a Cabinet meeting in Number 10.
"The lovely Palmerstoncame wandering out because it was warmer today. Larry was sitting on the step outside Number 10. Larry saw Palmerston venture onto the street, and chased him into the Foreign Office, through the gates. Suddenly I heard the usual fighting noise, which went on until it was broken up by nearby builders. Security then carried Palmerston off - they are lovely to him and really look after him," Back said.
The rivalry has forced staff at the nearby Treasury offices to keep their newest mouse-catcher, Gladstone, away from the feline war.
