"These industrial units were allegedly discharging untreated waste water into the sewers, roads and storm water drains, and this untreated acidic discharge is causing havoc in the industrial area and causing incovenience to the people there," said Sandeep Mishra, Secretary, DPCC.
DPCC has ordered Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) and Delhi Jal Board to cut power and water supply to the 112 stainless steel pickling units with immediate effect, Mishra said.
The 2,000-odd industrial units in the area allegedly discharge untreated waste water into the sewers which doesn't reach the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) as the sewerage system is broken.
A survey by the DPCC found large quantity of metallic silt from the pickling units was being discharged directly into the storm water drains without mandatory pre-treatment. This chokes the drains of the area resulting in back-flows and overflow.
