Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today held lengthy deliberations with top officials of the administration on the draft bill, which is being prepared by a high-level committee headed by former bureaucrat K Dharmarajan.
The Bill, when it becomes law, will replace the five-decade-old Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957.
Sources said the committee has almost finalised the draft and now it will be sent to the Centre for approval. After clearance from Home and Law Ministries, the bill will be tabled in the Delhi Assembly.
Top officials, including Chief Secretary P K Tripathi, provided various inputs for the bill to ensure better coordination between the government and the civic agencies.
The Bill will feature specific revenue models for each of the three municipal corporation carved out of the MCD, besides demarcating areas under them.
"The bill will encompass all matters related to functioning of the municipalities," an official said.
It also specifies various powers of the mayors, standing committees and ward committees so as to ensure proper coordination in implementation of various projects.
