The draft contours of the proposed education commission would come up for deliberation at the CABE meeting here on April 2 when a proposal for a national textbook council is expected to be considered for dropping.
The Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) is the highest decision-making body on the education sector for the country and its meeting comes barely a day after the RTE deadline for meeting infrastructure requirements in schools comes to an end.
While much of the deliberations is expected to centre around this issue and the progress under the Act, the agenda for the meet includes the proposed education commission the announcement for which was made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on August 15, 2011.
The commission is mandated to undertake a comprehensive review of the education system enunciated in the Education Commission (1966) and the National Policy on Education 1986, even as the HRD Ministry is yet to decide on the composition of the body.
