DRI Mumbai withdraws notice to AIIMS over payment issue

AIIMS today said that the Department of Revenue Intelligence has withdrawn the notice issued to it seeking attendance of the premier institute's director in connection with alleged non-payment to the Customs Department over import of microscopes since 2011.
"It is to state that vide a letter received from DRI Mumbai on October 29, the summons issued to the Director AIIMS to attend the hearing in personal capacity has been withdrawn herewith," said a statement issued by AIIMS.
"Department of Revenue Intelligence has further clarified that this issue is a classification dispute resolution matter covering more than 50 institutions and AIIMS is not the only entity which is a subject matter of this verification and the exercise is largely technical in nature," the statement said.
AIIMS also clarified that it has always rigidly adhered to all tariff regulations laid down by the Department of Customs, paid customs tariff regularly and would be sharing with DRI, Mumbai the details of the payments that they have sought.
Recently, the AIIMS director was summoned by the DRI, Mumbai Zonal Unit to produce the evidence of purchase invoice, country of origin certificate, bill of entry, technical brochure of the product and sale invoice, in connection with an inquiry in connection with import of 'Microscope and its parts by AIIMS from January 2011 till date'.
The Union Health Ministry had also sought a report from the Director over the same.
