The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today apprehended a woman passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport who was allegedly trying to smuggle in 1.29 kg of gold.
Based on a specific intelligence, DRI officers of the Hyderabad Zonal Unit intercepted the woman passenger who came from Abu Dhabi this afternoon.
"It was noticed that she was carrying a white mixer along with three jars. On a thorough examination, it was found that the motor of the mixer appeared to be tampered with, as some screws were missing," DRI's (Hyderabad Zonal Unit) Additional Director General M K Singh said in a release.
When the officers dismantled the motor, they found gold inside the core of the motor, it said.
Later it was found that the gold in molten form was poured into the mould of the motor core and sealed with metal sheet, so as to completely conceal the gold, the senior DRI official explained.
The woman has been booked under the Customs Act, Singh said.
Further investigation is in progress, the official added.
