Stating that there were 9.13 crore ration cards in the state against a population of 9.11 crore, Food and Supplies minister Jyotipriya Mullick told reporters here that bogus ration cards would be cancelled and FIRs registered against those holding them.
Mullick who has made surprise visits to food and supply offices and ration shops earlier said action would also be taken for possession of ration cards of others.
"According to our estimate there are still 79 lakh bogus ration cards in the State. We have directed the ration dealers to surrender such cards," he said.
Mullick said large amounts of foodgrains were being siphoned off through such cards.
