Police today rescued a driver from captivity and arrested two on charge of kidnapping the man at Nalapari village in Kendrapara district.
Rajwinder Singh, driver of a paddy harvesting machine, was allegedly lifted for ransom from paddy field at a village under Nikirai police jurisdiction last night.
In a swift move, police swooped on two of the kidnappers by tracking their mobiles. Police were on hunt for three other members of the gang.
Nikirai police station Inspector Kiran Hembrum said "all the accused have past history of crimes. After kidnapping, they tried to extort money from the driver. As the driver was short of cash, they later made ransom call to the owner of the company based in Bhatinda in Punjab".
Singh was held captive in two locations. He was rescued from a deserted house near Patharakhai deity on the Cuttack-Chandballi state highway.
The arrested Kanhu Charan Ojha and Debendra Swain have been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 364 (a) (Kidnapping for ransom) and 120-b (a criminal conspiracy to commit an offence).
