Driver of killer truck arrested, 11 held for vandalism

The police today arrested the driver of the truck that crushed to death 3 three school children and injuring another near Mathpukur in North 24 Parganas district yesterday.
Eleven others were also arrested for attacking a police team, vandalism and arson, officials of the Barrackpore Police Commissionrate said.
Truck driver Parimal Biswas, who was absconding since the accident yesterday, was arrested from Basirhat, while the others were picked up from Mathpukur.
When produced before a Barrackpore court, the driver was remanded to three days' police custody. The 11 others were remanded to judicial custody by the same court.
The speeding truck crushed the schoolchildren when they were waiting for a bus on the side of Belghoria Expressway at around 9 AM yesterday.

Three children died on the spot while a leg of the injured child was amputated. The victims were in the age group of 5-8 years.
An irate mob set three police vehicles afire, smashed a RT van and put up a road blockade, while the police were trying to pacify them. Five police personnel were injured in the violence.
