Driver thrashing: NHRC seeks report from UP Police

Acting on a media report, the Commission asked the DIG of Meerut to submit the report alongwith a status report on the health of the victim within four weeks.

The media report carried on October 19 claimed that police tortured truck driver Wahid because he refused to pay the bribe, an NHRC spokesperson said.

"Later, he was admitted to a hospital in Meerut for treatment where the doctors opined that victim had lost vision in the injured eye," the spokesperson said quoting from the report.
