Drop in temperature in most parts of Odisha after rains

Sharp fall in temperature in most parts of Odisha following rains brought some respite from scorching heat but heat conditions continued to prevail in western region of the state.
The mercury breached the 40 degree Celsius mark in nine places, compared to 15 towns yesterday when temperature had crossed 44 degree Celsius in four places.
At least 16 heat-related deaths have been reported in the state so far this summer - four each from Sambalpur and Angul, three each in Bargarh and Sundargarh districts and one each in Balangir and Bhadrak, said the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC)

As many coastal areas experienced rains since last night, the maximum temperature in state capital Bhubaneswar dropped to 34 degree Celsius from 43.6 degree Celsius recorded yesterday, the MeT office said.
In Cuttack too, the mercury fell to 34.2 degree Celsius from yesterday's 40.8 degree Celsius, it said.
Hirakud was the hottest place in the state recording a maximum temperature of 43.9 degree Celsius, followed by 43.8 degree Celsius in Jharsuguda and 43.7 degree Celsius at Sambalpur, it said.
Malkangiri recorded a maximum temperature of 42.6 degree Celsius, while the mercury stood at 42 degree Celsius at Balangir, 41.2 degree Celsius at Titlagarh, 40.2 degree Celsius at Talcher and 40.1 degree Celsius at Angul, it said.
