A father-son duo was caught red-handed while fleeing after robbing an IAS aspirant of his cell phone in central Delhi's Ranjit Nagar, the police said today.

Vivek Kumar was returning home yesterday when the accused confronted them in a deserted lane. One of them put his arm around his neck, while the other punched him and took out the cell phone from his pocket before fleeing the spot, the police said.

Kumar raised an alarm and two constables, who were patrolling the area started chasing the accused. The duo was nabbed after a brief chase with help from locals, said Mandeep Singh Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).

The robbed phone was also recovered from the two identified as Tinku (30) and his father Khajan Singh (50).

During interrogation, the accused told police that they are drug addicts and they used to purchase drugs with the money they got by selling the robbed items, he said.

They used to target passersby at lonely places specially in areas like Ranjit Nagar, Patel Nagar, Kirti Nagar and robbed off their belongings after chocking their neck, he added.
