Alleged drug racketeer Jagdish Singh Bhola has been sent to the custody of the Phagwara police for five days in connection with the murder of an assistant sub-inspector of police last year.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Gursevak Singh Brar today said Bhola was brought here from Nabha jail last evening and produced before a judicial magistrate, who sent him to five-day police custody.
Brar said Bhola was wanted in connection with the murder of ASI Gurdev Singh near a restaurant on the national highway on March 31 last. "Bhola had supplied a pistol to Rajinder Singh Mintu who had killed the ASI," he said.
Four persons - Tavinder Singh alias Tally of Tut Kalan in Jalandhar district, Rajinder Singh Mintu of Bhaini Khurd Wadali in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Palwinder Singh alias Pinda of Nihalugarh in Jalandhar district, and Pushpinder Singh Noni of Ladhewali in Jalandhar district - were arrested last year in connection with the murder, the SP said.
Bhola was sent back to the Nabha jail only yesterday morning by the Jalandhar police after keeping him in custody for eight days in connection with a heroin seizure case.
Meanwhile, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and former minister Joginder Singh Mann today alleged that Bhola was being booked in fresh cases because he had named Punjab Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia in the multi-crore drug racket.
"Prior to Bhola's disclosure that Majithia and two other Akali Dal ministers were involved in the drug racket, neither the Jalandhar police nor the Phagwara police had mentioned his involvement in any other case. He was being taught a lesson for naming Akali bigwigs in the drug racket," Mann claimed.
