Drug peddler re-arrested after fleeing from lockup, four cops

An alleged drug peddler was today re- arrested after he escaped from police custody within hours of his arrest in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said.
Four police personnel have been suspended for dereliction of duty and a probe has been order into the accused's earlier escape, he said.
Two persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in drug peddling from Bari Brahmana area of the district yesterday and booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a senior police officer said.
He said both the arrested persons were lodged at a local police station for questioning, but one of them, Sahil, managed to escape this morning on the pretext of attending the call of nature.
"Four policemen including an officer were placed under suspension for dereliction of duty and an inquiry has been ordered," the officer said.
Following a manhunt, the accused was re-arrested from Gagwal check post while he was trying to flee the district, he said.
