The ruling BJP in Tripura Tuesday claimed that Myanmar-based drug peddlers have issued a threat to the life of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb as he has given a call to make state drug-free.
Veteran BJP leader and former minister Ratan Chakraborty told reporters that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has received reports that drug peddlers have hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Deb.
"There are reports with the Union home minister that drug peddlers in Myanmar are trying to assassinate Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. We have also got inputs from our party sources," Chakraborty said.
"The drug peddlers in the region are unhappy with the chief minister, as he has given a call to make the state drug-free. So they have hatched a conspiracy," he said.
As per reports, over 50,000 kg cannabis have been recovered along with narcotic pills, heroin, brown sugar and other intoxicants in the last six months. Over 120 persons were arrested in connection with these recoveries.
