Drug racket: Police raid pharma units in Uttar Pradesh

Raids were being carried out on a few pharmaceutical units in Roorkee of Uttar Pradesh, days after Punjab Police busted a multi-crore Delhi-based synthetic drug racket, a senior police officer said here today.
Further seizures of precursor chemicals and synthetic drugs are expected during the searches, Patiala SSP Hardyal Singh Mann said, adding that investigations have revealed operational details about of the rackets in Myanmar and other foreign countries.
The operational details would be shared with concerned authorities through the Counter Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police, Mann said.
Names of several women based in Myanmar have also come up during interrogation of the accused.

A female operative, named Lalumi who was reportedly based in Khampat of Myanmar, was in active touch with two accused -- Robert and Varinder Raja -- and made at least six trips to India to obtain contraband consignments and shipped them to parties on the Myanmar-China border, he claimed.
Mann said it has also been revealed that contraband consignments were transported from New Delhi to Imphal by air cargo, mainly in morning flights, and also by road via Guwahati.

From Imphal, the contrabands would be transported by road to Tamu on the Myanmar border.
Five persons were arrested recently with drugs worth over Rs 200 crore from Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, including a Myanmarese national.

Suresh Kumar, manager of a Gagret-based factory in Himachal Pradesh; Varinder Singh Raja of Vikaspuri, Delhi; Hrang Tin Khara alias Robert Rangoon, Myanmar; Rajesh Kumar Bansal of Rohini, Delhi; and Ajay Jain of Rohini, Delhi were arrested by Punjab Police in the past week.
