Sexagenarian Ashwani Anand had a fixed routine - to leave for his morning stroll by 5 and return home by 6 - until today when he ended up late by a few minutes and was killed by a speeding car being driven by a 21-year-old student in a highly inebriated condition.
67-year-old Anand, who owned a business, was particular about his diet and daily workout and made sure that his weight never exceeded 55 kg. He used to leave home strictly by 5 AM and by 6 he was always back, his son-in-law Sunny Ahuja said.
Like any other usual day, Anand had left for morning walk with his neighbour (Mr Mehta) today.
"Today he was late and around 6.30 AM, I received a call from my mother-in-law. Neighbours had already raised an alarm by then. We rushed to the spot and came to know that he was already taken to DDU hospital. When we reached there, he was dead," Ahuja said.
Anand is survived by his wife, Mamta, who is unwell, and daughters Deepti and Sakshi, both married. While Deepti lives with her husband in the same locality, Sakshi lives in the US.
Ahuja said it was Anand's family who obtained a CCTV grab of the incident and provided it to the police.
In the video, Anand and Mehta can be seen walking when they suddenly notice the car approaching from the other direction and the wrong side of the road. They both can be seen trying to run towards the pavement.

While Mehta had a close shave, Anand can be seen being hit by the car, believed to being driven at a speed over 100 kmph, and flug several metres ahead, passing above another car parked on the road and hitting a tree there.
Anand and Kameshwar Prasad (40) were killed and another critically injured after they were knocked down by a speeding car allegedly driven by a 21-year-old student in a highly inebriated state.
The accused, Rishabh, a student of business administration in a college under a prominent government university here, is the son of a businessman.
This was the second such case in the city this year in which the accused was slapped with a more stringent charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder instead of charge of causing death by negligence, which is bailable in nature.
