DSGMC general secretary and legislator Manjinder Singh Sirsa has written a letter to Swaraj urging her to take up the matter with Australian authorities.
"It has come to our notice that the Education Department in Queensland, Australia, has banned the wearing of Kirpan by Sikh students," he said in the letter.
Sirsa said that it was a "discriminatory" move that "harassed" students from the community.
Reports had it that the school's principal was told by Queensland authorities that it was wrong to allow a parent of the faith to carry a ceremonial knife (kirpan) onto the school grounds.
