However, police denied the charges, saying it only chased the demonstrators with lathis.
A large number of DSO members, joined by activists of SUCI's youth body DYO and women wing MSS participated in the demonstration. Seven DSO demonstrators were arrested.
The DSO alleged the police action was unprovoked and that some of their members were injured in the lathicharge.
In Siliguri, DSO members took out a similar procession in support of its 10-point list of demands, including a "proper" probe into the chit fund meltdown.
