The Madras High Court today assured the father of DSP Vishnu Priya, who allegedly committed suicide last month, that it will monitor the CB-CID investigation into the case and asked him "not to politicise the matter".
Justice P N Prakash, before whom a petition filed by Vishnu Priya's father M Ravi has come up, seeking transfer of the probe to CBI, ordered issue of notice to police authorities, returnable by four weeks, to inform the progress of the probe.
"The deceased officer is not a politician. By seeking for a CBI probe, do not politicise the matter," the judge said in his oral observation, assuring Ravi that the court will monitor the CB-CID investigation.
The court had on September 23 dismissed as withdrawn a PIL filed by former DMK minister Subbulaksmi Jagadeesan seeking a direction for a CBI probe into the case, saying, "You are not a relative... If the aggrieved family members file then it is okay."
P Wilson, counsel for Ravi, submitted that Vishnu Priya who was the DSP, Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, and Investigating Officer in the sensational murder case of Dalit engineering graduate V Gokulraj, "was unable to tolerate pressure and compulsion from senior police officers to arrest innocent people in the murder case".
When the counsel submitted that the present police officer probing the alleged suicide case is the subordinate of the Superintendent of Police with whom Vishnupriya had worked and hence there was every chance of bias in the probe, the judge observed "you cannot go on suspecting all police officials and the case cannot be ordered for investigation by Scotland Yard police".
To a request by the counsel that till the investigation is transferred to CBI, police may be ordered to stop the probe, the judge said it cannot be directed to be stalled even for a minute.
The 27-year-old DSP was found hanging in her residence-cum-office complex on September 18.
