Delhi Congress today alleged that thousands of former Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) employees and their families were in "misery" due to the "irregular" payment of pension to them ever since the AAP government came to power six months ago.
"As a result of the irregular payment of pension, most of the DTC pensioners who are in the 70-90 age category are facing a hard time, as they have no money to buy even essential medicines.
"DTC pensioners, who have been getting their pension regularly for the past 34 years, are now facing irregular payment of pensions since January 2015 without DA...Putting the pensioners in misery," Delhi Congress leader Ajay Maken said.
In a meeting with Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, Maken alleged the AAP Government has "illegally" decided to stop pension to "Pension Opted Employees" in violation of the stipulated norms.
Congress claimed that Jung assured them that he would take up the case with the Delhi Government to find out a satisfactory solution.
A party delegation, led by Maken, also raised the issue of the "non-implementation" of Street Vendors Act and DDA's alleged demolition drive against jhuggis in Mehrauli area in south Delhi.
"The street vendors were being driven out and their goods confiscated as the AAP Government has not yet taken steps to notify the scheme under this Act and provide licence to over 5 lakh street vendors," Maken said.
Maken also urged Jung to use his powers to rehabilitate those affected by the alleged demolition of JJ Clusters by providing them LIG flats.
