DU colleges rush interviews for appointment of ad-hoc teachers

With just two days to go for the start of new academic session, various Delhi University colleges today rolled out notices announcing walk-in interviews for appointment of ad-hoc teachers this weekend.
With the scrapping of the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) and the need to restructure the courses to ensure the commencement of the academic session as per schedule, the fate of ad-hoc teachers was undecided so far.
In a rush to wrap up the appointments prior to the commencement of session, the colleges have called the candidates for walk-in interview this weekend (July 19-20).
Several colleges including Department of Geology, Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, Miranda House, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, Rajdhani college, Indraprastha College for Women, Gargi College, Aryabhatt college among others have posted interview notices on their websites inviting the candidates for interviews on Saturday and Sunday.

"Generally, the process of appointment of ad-hoc teachers is completed atleast three weeks prior to the beginning of new academic session. Due to the delay in restructuring of courses and assessment of workload the appointment has been delayed but nevertheless will be finished before the session begins," said Pratibha Jolly, Principal of Miranda House.
However, the college clarified in the interview notice that these appointments are not necessarily for the entire session.

"Actual appointment for the odd semester, academic year 2014-15 will be as per the workload requirement of the department and the roster, to be announced shortly," the notice issued by Miranda House said.

"The appointment of ad-hoc teachers is done through walk-in interviews only. However, this time it has been little delayed as the courses and time tables were being finalised," said SK Garg, Principal of Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, said.
Refuting reports that restructuring of the courses after scrapping of the FYUP might delay the session, the varsity had assured the students that the session would commence on July 21 as per the schedule.
The Academic Council and Executive Council of the university will be meeting tomorrow for the final approval of the restructured courses.
