The government today informed the Rajya Sabha that the controversial four-year programme of Delhi University has been scrapped and replaced with the three year programme which was in place in 2012-13.
In a written reply, HRD Minister Smriti Irani highlighted the steps taken by UGC and its direction to DU to restore the three-year programme.
"The University of Delhi has also reported that the Academic Council of University of Delhi has decided to replace, with effect from the academic year 2014-15, the syllabi/scheme of examination under the FYUP with scheme/syllabi which was in existence in 2012-13," she said.
UGC, she said, has also directed DU to make appropriate arrangement for students, already admitted in the academic year 2013-14 in the FYUP, to migrate to the three-year undergraduate programme structure so that they do not lose an academic year for obtaining undergraduate degrees.
Appropriate arrangement shall be made by the university for students, already admitted in the academic year 2013-14 in the FYUP, to migrate to the three year undergraduate programme structure so that they do not lose an academic year for obtaining undergraduate degrees.
DU on June 27 had announced scrapping of the controversial four-year undergraduate programme under pressure from UGC to act on its directive.
DU Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh had asked principals of various colleges affiliated to the varsity to start admissions for the new session. Admissions to various programmes are currently underway.
