The incident happened last night when Ankit, a second year student of Swami Shraddhanand College, was roaming outside his house, they said.
"Suddenly, he was intercepted by two persons who were on a bike. Before he could realise anything, the attackers fired two shots at him. One of them hit him in the chest and he fell on the ground while the duo fled the spot," police said.
The victim was rushed to hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
