The varsity had sent a communication to all colleges and departments last week informing them about a centralised online application process for ad-hoc appointments.
Colleges were further asked to prepare a panel of eligible candidates from the applications and schedule the interviews.
However, so far colleges and departments used to independently conduct the recruitments of ad-hocs and the varsity had no interference in it.
The letter irked the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) members who termed it to be a violation of university norms as the new rules were not placed before the Executive Council for its approval.
"The deliberations on streamlining the process of ad-hoc appointments are in process and will be finalised after due process of consultation and discussion before the statutory bodies of the university," a new letter sent to colleges read.
"Until the revised guidelines come into effect following the due process, you are requested to conduct the ad-hoc appointments as per the guidelines existing since 2007," it added.
