"Students have read much about Mahatma Gandhi in books as well as part of their academic curriculum. We wanted them to be updated on the cinema which acknowledges Gandhi's contribution to the nation," said Nisha Tyagi, Deputy Dean (Academics), DU's Gandhi Bhawan.
The documentaries scheduled to be screened at the four-day festival on Mahatma Gandhi starting from today include 'Gandhi' by Richard Attenborough, 'The Path of Non-violence' by American Institute of Education, 'Making of the Mahatma' directed by Shyam Benegal and 'Gandhi-Ek Jeevni' produced by Gandhi National Museum.
The festival, is the second edition of the 'Gandhi Documentary week' which was observed by the varsity in July this year.
The 15 documentaries to be screened during the week-long festival included 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara', 'Making of the Mahatama', 'Gandhi-My father', 'Prarthana Pravachan- Mahatma Gandhi ke swar mein' and 'The Story of My Experiments with Truth', among others.
DU also offers a free certificate course in 'Charkha spinning' which is conducted by a retired Hindi professor Sita Bimbrahw, who has taught the art to former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, VP Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Morarji Desai.
