A travel ban has been imposedby a Dubai court against Binoy Kodiyeri, the elder son of CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, in a cheating case filed by a Gulf-based tourism company.
Binoy Kodiyeri, who is now in Dubai, has been asked to deposit his passport to the court following the ban imposed on February 1.
The court action is on the basis of a complaint by the Dubai-based JAAS Tourism which had alleged that Binoy Kodiyeri had cheated it of Rs 13 crore.
Reacting to the development, Binoy, told 'People TV', the marxist party controlled malayalam channel, that he had come to Dubai on January 28 as part of his business activities and to sort out the issues relating to the case.
Denying reports that he had been prevented by Dubai police and immigration authorities from leaving the Gulf nation following the ban and his passport had been seized, Binoy said he had not gone to the airport.
"This is a civil matter and I have started legal proceedings.I have given legal notice to JAAS Tourism," he said.

Binoy said he had been staying in Dubai for the last 15 yearsas part of his business activities.
Binoy said he expected the appeal against the ban to be filed by Tuesday or Wednesday, adding, he has sent a legal notice to the firm to return his cheques with them.
Bineesh, the younger son of the Marxist leader, said the dispute was over payment of Rs 1.74 crore and not Rs 13 crore as was being alleged.
Binoy has also been asked by the court to deposit 10 lakh dirhams (Rs 1.74 core).
Bineesh told reporters here that the dispute had been deliberately brought up at a time the CPI(M) district conferences were going on.
"Let Binoy be in Dubai. There is no urgency for him to come back here," he said.
"My brother and I are adults and are responsible for our actions. Whatever we do, how is our father responsible?" he asked.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had earlier maintained there was no case against his elder son Binoy in Dubai and attacked the media for giving "misleading" reports.
"There are no issues. Issues have to be resolved only if they exist. How can solutions be found to a problem which does not exist?" he had asked reporters here.
Hasan Ismaeel Abdulla Almarzooqi, owner of the tourism company, had reportedly planned to hold a press conference at the Press Club here this evening with regard to their allegation against Binoy.
However, it was cancelled after a court issued an injunction yesterday with regard to any discussion or publication of news related to the cheating case, in which the son of another ruling front MLA is said to be involved.
The Press club in a statement said it has not been informed about the cancellation of the press meet.
Reacting to the travel ban against Binoy, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan alleged that the CPI(M) leader had misled the people of the state on his son's case.
People have the right to know the business run by the two sons of Balakrishnan, who has served as former Home and Tourism minister, the BJP leader said.
