Dubai has broken the Guinness World Record for conducting 8,675 diabetes screenings in just eight hours, beating the previous record of 7,024 tests.
A team of more than 80 nurses were on hand for an eight-hour diabetes screening of shoppers at The Dubai Mall.
The programme was organised to conduct a major awareness drive, highlighting the risks of heart problems, and underline the importance of a healthy lifestyle, 'WAM' reported.
The campaign was rolled out by Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in partnership with Benchmark Middle East, FZ-LLC, the initiator of the One Heart Health Community.
According to the Gulf News, the first phase of the campaign set out to tackle cardiovascular disease, the world's biggest single killer, which accounted for a quarter of all deaths in the UAE in 2012.
As shoppers lined up for blood sugar level checks at nursing stations set up in the mall, the aim was to break the current Guinness World Records title in an eight-hour screening.
Two other Guinness World Records will be attempted in August and November this year for most blood pressure readings and most cholesterol readings, the report said.
