Two men allegedly posing as traffic policemen were today arrested after being exposed by a constable while they were checking commercial vehicles with a view to extorting money near Akshardham Temple in East Delhi.
According to police, Ramesh Chand (35) and Raj Kumar (42) were arrested today near Askhardham temple after constable Sohanvir found them illegally checking a commercial vehicle.
"The duo, clad in the blue jackets, blue trousers and black shoes of traffic policemen, were checking vehicles in the said area.
"However, as soon as they saw the constable, they tried to flee the spot. But Sohanvir managed to catch them with the help of Suresh, the driver whose vehicle was being checked by the accused at the time," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Anil Shukla.
Suresh said that the duo had stopped his vehicle, checked his documents and demanded Rs 200 as bribe after threatening to impound his vehicle.
