Effigies of the demon king Ravana were burnt at several places in Rajasthan today as it joined the nation in celebrating Dussehra, marking the triumph of good over evil.
Colourful effigies of Ravana, his son Meghnad and brother Kumbhakaran went up in flames in the state capital, and at fairs at Mansarover, Adarsh Nagar, Sanganer and Vidhyadhar Nagar among others.
Vendors selling effigies made quick bucks as small sized figures were in demand at Rawana Mandi, Tonk road and other localities.
"We have sold more effigies this time than last year. Small sized effigies, between 5-10 feet long, were in demand as people can easily burn them in colonies and streets," effigy vendor, Jagdish Jogi said.
ADG Law and Order N R K Reddy said that elaborate security arrangements were made for the festival.
"Additional policemen were deployed around the city and in other parts of the state to ensure law and order," he said.
