The MHRD in a circular had said that central universities are supposed to get only 70 per cent of the enhanced amount on account of the pay commission, the rest has to be met by the varsities through self-generation of resources.
"There is a growing fear that disbursement of revised salaries according to the Seventh Pay Commission may be delayed because of the 30-70 per cent funding formula notified by the MHRD," DUTA, president, Rajib Ray said in a statement.
"Also state universities have been allocated only 50 per cent of central assistance and that too for a reduced period of 39 months as opposed to 80 per cent for 51 months in the last pay revision," Ray said.
The march which began from Feroz Shah Kotla to the UGC saw participation of various teachers bodies such as the Jamia Teachers' Association, IGNOU Teachers Association and Aligarh Muslim University Teachers' Association.
Ray said there would be a 'joint rally' from Mandi House to Parliament on February 16 with participation of students, parents and Members of Parliament if their demands the "negative recommendations" are not withdrawn.
