The delegation deliberated on signing an MoU between Chandra Shekhar Azad Agriculture and Technology University Kanpur for setting up a centre of excellence in potato cultivation and processing with a varsity in the Netherlands, an official release issued here said.
Besides, they also discussed modernisation of dairies with the help of Dutch techniques, it said, adding, they evinced interest in transfer of information between the two varsities.
The government is actively considering improving agriculture produce with the help of Dutch technique so as to improve farmers' income as well as modernising the dairy industry and food processing units, it said.
State Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said as UP is the highest potato grower in the country, setting up centre of excellence in Kanpur besides Agro Food and technology centre in Kannauj, Farrukhabad and Firozabad would help in imparting training for improving potato yield of this area.
The Chief Secretary pointed out that despite high yield in some areas, a large quantity of it gets wasted for which companies from the Netherlands could help in setting up cold chains.
