Duty Magistrate, cops injured during anti-encroachment drive

A duty magistrate and a few policemen sustained injuries as encroachers allegedly pelted stones when Demolition Squad of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) today removed encroachments from 17.22 acres of land in Sector 47 Gurgaon.
HUDA had acquired the piece of land from the village panchayat, which was given the compensation amount as well, an official release said here.
"During this exercise, the squad had to face resistance from the encroachers who resorted to pelting stones on the squad. As a result, the Estate Officer-II Tarun Kumar Pawaria, Estate Officer-I Om Prakash, who was deployed as Duty Magistrate, and a number of police personnel suffered injuries," it said.
Police have detained some of the stone pelters.
The release quoting Pawaria said that the drive was video recorded and the people who attacked the demolition squad and those who allegedly instigated them would be identified and booked.
He said the entire area under acquisition was freed from encroachment and was being fenced with barbed wires.

"Due to illegal occupation of this land the construction work of internal sector roads of Sector 47 Gurgaon was being hindered, causing inconvenience to the residents," the officer said.
"Today, the encroachers also set on fire the domestic gas cylinders, which blasted like bombs but fortunately no loss was reported," the release said.
Earlier also, the HUDA authorities attempted to vacate the encroachment and the encroachers had set the vehicle of the then Estate Officer-II on fire and he had to run for his life.
