Jake Kasdan will direct Sony Pictures' remake, which will take a new look at the Chris Van Allsburg book in a script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, based on a draft by the original writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Matt Tolmach and Bill Teitler are producing, with Ted Field, Mike Weber and Van Allsburg acting as executive producers.
In a post on his Instagram account, Johnson said that the movie will begin shooting this fall. The movie is scheduled for a July 28, 2017, release.
