In a bid to make Guwahati a slum-free city, the Assam government has initiated steps to build houses for the slum dwellers under the 'Rajiv Awas Yojana' in the city.

At the meeting, the Chief Minister asked the concerned officials to take steps on a fast-track basis for building the dwelling houses for people in 164 slum areas identified in the city which would be encompassed under the scheme initially.
