UP Jail Minister today ordered a magisterial inquiry into claims of an undertrial of Dasna jail that a deputy jailor brutally beat him for not giving "extortion money" and also branded his name on his back with a hot iron.
Rajendra Chaudhary, who visited the jail today, met undertrial Karan alias Chottu (facing murder charges), who has filed a petition in a local court alleging that he was beaten for not giving "extortion money" to deputy jailor Rajesh Kumar Pandey, who also branded his name on his back "with hot iron".
After the minister's order, Sub-Divisional Magistrate has started a probe in the matter and is likely to submit a report tomorrow.
"If any jail official is found guilty as per the SDM's probe report, strict action would be taken against him," Chaudhary said, adding that such brutality with inmates would not be accepted at any cost.
In a report submitted today to the court, jail authorities claimed that the deputy jailor had not mistreated the inmate.
However, his counsel, S P Singh said the medical report submitted by the jail authorities was incomplete and he would file an application in the court seeking a complete medical report of his client.
Chaudhary, also a SP spokesperson, spoke to several prisoners about the conduct of jail authorities. Sources said he also inspected the food being served to inmates of the jail.
A local court had yesterday directed Dasna jail authorities to reply to the undertrial's petition.
