Sources close to the Delhi Dynamos outfit claimed today that that they were on the brink of signing the 39-year-old who played a key role in the Azzuris' 2006 World Cup triumph, scoring in the semifinal against Germany and finding the back of the net in the penalty shootout against France in the summit showdown.
"Talks are supposed to be in advanced stage at the moment, his agent has been contacted and chances are that he could very soon be a part of ISL," sources said.
The footballer, who had acquired a legendary status at Italian Serie A club Juventus owing to his amazing goal-scoring prowess, had parted ways with with Sydney FC in the Australian A-League after the end of the season in April.
Del Piero, who had netted nearly 300 times during his long association with the Old Lady of Turin, was also the marquee player with Sydney FC.
Amid all the hype around his prospects of playing in India, Australian media has reported that Del Piero might consider Hungarian club Honved FC.
