The capital's ISL franchise Delhi Dynamos are reportedly on the verge of signing a deal with Italy's World Cup winning star and Juventus legend Alessandro del Piero as their marquee player for the upcoming Indian Super League football event.
Sources close to the Delhi Dynamos outfit claimed today that that they were on the brink of signing the 39-year-old who played a key role in the Azzuris' 2006 World Cup triumph, scoring in the semifinal against Germany and finding the back of the net in the penalty shootout against France in the summit showdown.
"Talks are supposed to be in advanced stage at the moment, his agent has been contacted and chances are that he could very soon be a part of ISL," sources said.
The much-awaited tournament is scheduled to be held from October 12-December 20 across various centres in the country.
The footballer, who had acquired a legendary status at Italian Serie A club Juventus owing to his amazing goal-scoring prowess, had parted ways with with Sydney FC in the Australian A-League after the end of the season in April.
Del Piero, who had netted nearly 300 times during his long association with the Old Lady of Turin, was also the marquee player with Sydney FC.
Amid all the hype around his prospects of playing in India, Australian media has reported that Del Piero might consider Hungarian club Honved FC.
If Del Piero signs with the Dynamos, he will be the biggest name in the ISL, even bigger than another World Cup winner, Frenchmen David Trezeguet and Robert Pires.
