It has also sought clearance for its exports through ports without any regulations.
A meeting was convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here yesterday to discuss the problems faced by coconut farmers in the state and it was decided to request the Centre to ease the regulations.
To help the coconut farmers, the meeting decided to procure 20,000 tonne more of copra with the support of coconut producers' societies, their federation and horticorp, an official release said. A subsidy of Rs 10 crores have been earmarked for coconut procurement.
Copra would be procured within seven days. The meeting has also decided to use coconut oil for cooking the mid day meals in 13,000 schools and 29,000 anganawadis.
Steps would be taken to provide 2 kg of coconut oil per month to a ration card holder with a subsidy of Rs 15.
It was also decided to set up 1,000 coconut water parlours in the state and 100 of them would start functioning soon. Each parlour would get a subsidy of Rs 25,000 each from Coconut Development Board and Government respectively.
Decision also would be taken to levy tax for tender coconuts brought from outside the state.
