East Bengal will try to sign off on a winning note when they face Shillong Lajong FC in a concluding round I-League fixture at the Kalyani Stadium tomorrow.
East Bengal's chances of retaining the second position are remote as they have to depend on the result of Pune FC, who currently occupy the place in the league standings.
In such a scenario, East Bengal's motivation will be to keep the winning momentum after beating United Sikkim before their premier AFC Cup pre-quartefinal clash against Yangon United scheduled here on May 15.
"We want to finish on a winning note. We play at home and will like to continue winning, which will also be helpful as we play the AFC Cup pre-quarterfinals three days later," coach Trevor Morgan said today.
"We do not have any major injury problems and the boys are keyed up to give their best and go for the maximum points," Morgan added.
East Bengal are currently placed third with 47 points from 25 matches against Lajong's 11th place with 25 points from as many outings.
"Our team did not do well in the away matches and that made us slip down in the standings. Even our opponents East Bengal could not perform that well in their away outings which saw them going out of the title race. We will look for a win tomorrow and try to make a successful finish," Lajong FC coach coach Thangboi Singto said.
"We remained under the relegation threat for some time but we are now out of it. The players will not be under pressure and can play freely. We would like to make a better finish in the final league standings by bagging a win," Singto said.
