A detailed project report for development of the lake and the park has already been received by East Delhi Municipal Corporation from National Environmental Research Institute (NERI), Pune.
Under this project, the sewage of the old lake, which was converted into a drain, will be treated through certain trees, East Delhi Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sajjan Singh Yadav said today.
"The lake will be redeveloped in its original form. Landscaping would also be done around this area for its beautification. Thereafter, this will be a landmark of East Delhi which will be used as a picnic spot," he said.
He was speaking after Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta launched a special plantation drive in East Delhi near Welcome Colony organised by Horticulture Department of East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
"We will also ensure development of greenery in all parks through public support and all councillors will also pay a very supportive and important role in it for better environment," he said.
East Delhi Mayor Annapurna Mishra said the Corporation has taken a vow to plant 1.25 lakh saplings in all its 64 wards.
The Horticulture Department will plant 21000 saplings during this monsoon.
