Chinese police today said they have found flags flags of separatist group "East Turkestan" - which is fighting for the independence of Xinjiang province - at the site of the Kunming knife attack that left 33 people dead.
"Some flags of the 'East Turkestan' forces were discovered at the site, according to the initial findings of the police. Investigation of the terrorist attack is still under way," Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said.
The "East Turkestan" forces, among which the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) is a major group, are one of the major and direct reasons for increasing terrorist attacks in China, particularly in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, according to state-run Xinhua news agency.
The ETIM, listed by the UN Security Council as a terrorist group, claimed responsibility for the October Tiananmen attack that killed five people and injured 40 others.
