Easter celebrations began with pomp and gaiety in the northeast on Sunday with people taking part in candlelight processions and prayer services.
In Nagaland capital Kohima, thousands of devotees attended the sunrise service at the historic World War-II Cemetery to mark the resurrection of Christ from the dead.
Delivering his Easter message, the general secretary of Asia Pacific Baptist Federation, Rev. Vesekhoyi Tetseo, said, "Jesus Christ is the hope for those who acknowledge their shortcomings and repent."
