A vegetarian restaurant at the busy railway station here was shuttoday following suspected outbreak of food borne disease.
A railway official said the eatery was closed after a group of students who consumed food at that outlet at Ernakulam North railway station last night, took ill.
"Sixteen students, who are members of an Under 16 football squad, fell sick after taking food from the restaurant yesterday.
We suspect that it is a case of food poison," the official said.
The students who had complained of stomach problem and vomiting were admitted to two hospitals in Pattambi, he said adding food samples collected from the sealed restaurant have been sent for examination.
Railway authorities have said strong action would be taken against the management of the restaurant if they are found guilty of selling unhygienic food.
Meanwhile, the students are doing well and would be discharged soon, the official added.
