The Election Commission appointed Excise Observer Santosh Kumar Mishra arrived here today to assess the alertness and effectiveness of state excise machinery during the election period.
Mishra during the day held meeting with Commissioner (Tax & Excise) Marnya Ete and district excise functionaries through video conferencing, official sources informed.
He asked all the officials to take all kinds of measures including daily monitoring of liquor movement, strict checking at all excise gates, daily monitoring of retail shop timing, to ensure that no liquor is used for inducement during the election period.
Showing concern over the expenditure sensitivity in the state during elections, he instructed that no leniency be shown, in implementing the instructions of the Commission, to anybody.
He directed that appropriate records must be maintained at the shop level to ensure close monitoring.
He also expressed his satisfaction on the progress made so far in confiscating the illicit liquor and putting CCTV in all the bonded warehouses and wholesale locations in the state.
He is scheduled to visit districts to assess the ground realities, sources added.
