EC constitutes MCMC in Meghalaya

The Election Commission of India has constituted the State Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) in Meghalaya to check paid news and ensure free and fair conduct of the upcoming 2018 assembly elections.
Headed by the Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor, the MCMC is to decide on appeals on Certification of Advertisement as per ECIs instructions, to examine all cases of paid news and to take up suo-moto action and direct the concerned returning officer to issue notice to the candidates or political parties, a statement issued here said.
The members of the Committee include Additional Chief Electoral Officer, an Expenditure Observer nominated by CEO, Information and Public Relations department director, Field Publicity Deputy Director and W Rapheal Warjri as representative from the media, it said.
The Joint Chief Electoral Officer will be the Member Secretary.
