Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi today said the mapping was "an effective tool to identify absentee voters, trouble-mongers and those charged with offences" so that sensitive areas can be identified and preparations can be made for trouble-free polling.
Zutshi said he was in the state to check whether directives issued by the Commission following Chief Election Commissioner V M Sampath's last month visit were being followed.
The Deputy Election Commissioner and other members of EC team today met senior district and police officials.
The EC team would also examine aspects related to the electoral rolls, Zutshi said, adding that the last date for revision of rolls is August 31.
The team would visit Surat tomorrow, followed by Rajkot. It is expected to visit Ahmedabad and Patan next week.
Vadodara District Collector Vinod Rao, meanwhile, told PTI that administration had received 1.15 lakh complaints regarding entry of names in the electoral rolls.
