EC seizes Rs 6.47 crore

The Election Commission today said it has seized Rs 6.47 crore cash from various places across Tamil Nadu and has received over two lakh complaints so far in the state which goes to polls on May 16.
The Model Code of Conduct in Tamil Nadu came into effect on March 4.
Static Surveillance Teams have seized Rs 6.40 crore in cash till March 23.
The cash, carried without necessary documents, have been seized and deposited with the treasury, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said in a release here today.
Till date FIRs have been filed in 1,482 cases including misuse of vehicles and conducting public meetings without permissions and violations, he said.
Ahead of the polls, a strict vigil is being maintained by the Election Commission against transportation of unaccounted money and illegal money transactions.
